Stillorgan Park Road Cycling Scheme

The Stillorgan Park Road Cycle Route Improvement Scheme forms part of the Orbital Cycle Route SO5, identified within the Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network Plan, which connects Dún Laoghaire, Stillorgan, Dundrum, and Ballyboden. The scheme has been developed to provide a high-quality, safe, and accessible cycling and pedestrian corridor that enhances sustainable transport connectivity between key residential, educational, commercial, and recreational destinations.

A public consultation process was undertaken as part of the project development, with 228 responses received and analysed to inform the design and ensure stakeholder concerns and aspirations were considered throughout the scheme development.

The proposed works are located along Stillorgan Park Road and form a key section of the strategic cycling network within South Dublin. The scheme creates a continuous and consistent active travel route, providing safer and more convenient facilities for cyclists and pedestrians while improving connectivity with existing and planned cycling infrastructure throughout the area.

The project aims to improve conditions for cyclists, pedestrians, public transport users, and motorists through the provision of segregated active travel infrastructure, enhanced crossing facilities, improved junction layouts, and traffic calming measures. The scheme will contribute to increased levels of walking and cycling, improved accessibility and permeability, reduced conflict between road users, and support national and local sustainable transport objectives.

The scheme also improves links to surrounding residential areas, public transport facilities, and existing active travel infrastructure, including connections to the two-way cycle route along Carysfort Avenue and the pedestrian underpass at the N11. Particular emphasis has been placed on accessibility, inclusivity, and the reduction of conflict points between pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicular traffic.
