Test The objective was to provide a safer and more attractive connection between the Greenway at Bilberry and the City centre.
This proposed Greenway Link improves the 2km section closest to Waterford City of the 46km long Waterford Greenway, completing the linear continuous feature across Waterford and contributing to the wellbeing of all residents, rural and urban. The Greenway Link is designed to service all residents and visitors to Waterford regardless of ability and age.
- New and improved high-quality cycling, walking and crossing facilities;
- Improvements to cyclist priority and safety along the route, particularly at junctions;
- Improved mobility impaired and vulnerable road user facilities at Rice Bridge, e.g. reduced crossing delays and additional crossing locations for pedestrians, without any significant reduction in capacity for vehicular traffic;
- 200m of boardwalk structure as the scheme enters Waterford City Centre;
- Upgraded landscaping, public realm, cycle parking and streetscape.
- Development of concept designs, feasibility studies, scheme option development, and preliminary design for the scheme;
- Undertaking surveys and investigations including topographical surveys, site investigation and traffic counts;
- AA Screening, EIA Screening and Flood Risk Assessment;
- Advising on Health and Safety requirements and undertaking Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) role;
- Traffic modelling of the Rice Bridge junction;
- Cost estimation and scheme appraisal;
- Undertaking public and stakeholder consultation, including Part 8 Planning;
- CPO and Accommodation Works;
- Detailed design, tender and supervision on site of the works. Construction commenced on site in late 2021 and was completed in mid-2023.
