The objective was to provide a safer and more attractive connection between the Greenway at Bilberry and the City centre.

This proposed Greenway Link improves the 2km section closest to Waterford City of the 46km long Waterford Greenway, completing the linear continuous feature across Waterford and contributing to the wellbeing of all residents, rural and urban. The Greenway Link is designed to service all residents and visitors to Waterford regardless of ability and age.

  • New and improved high-quality cycling, walking and crossing facilities;

  • Upgraded landscaping, public realm, cycle parking and streetscape.

  • Development of concept designs, feasibility studies, scheme option development, and preliminary design for the scheme;

  • Advising on Health and Safety requirements and undertaking Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) role;
  • Traffic modelling of the Rice Bridge junction;
  • Cost estimation and scheme appraisal;
  • Undertaking public and stakeholder consultation, including Part 8 Planning;
  • CPO and Accommodation Works;
  • Detailed design, tender and supervision on site of the works. Construction commenced on site in late 2021 and was completed in mid-2023.
