Dodder Greenway

The Dodder Greenway is being developed to link Sir John Rogerson’s Quay all the way to the Bohernabreena Reservoirs. This ambitious project has allowed CSEA to show its expertise in developing high-quality and attractive green alternatives to car travel. CSEA have designed a 17km of segregated and shared route infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, this also required the construction of three bridges making this a continuous and break free amenity for all to enjoy.

The Dodder Greenway – Phase 2 – Bridges scheme is part of the overall development and upgrade of the Dodder Greenway, a greenway amenity that commences at the Bohernabreena reservoir in the Dublin Mountains and terminates at the Grand Canal Basin in Dublin City Centre. CSEA’s client, South Dublin County Council (SDCC), are responsible for 12km of greenway infrastructure from the Bohernabreena to Orwell Park in Rathfarnham. The main Contractor, Murphy Group, were tasked with the construction of the Dodder Greenway Phase 2 scheme where CSEA provided Civil, Structural and Transportation consultancy services on behalf of our client SDCC.

In general, the Dodder Greenway – Phase 2 – Bridges involved the construction/installation of 3 no. 4m wide steel pedestrian & cycle bridges over the Dodder River at the locations conveyed below.

  • Bridge No 1 – Bolbrook Enterprise Centre, Avonmore Road, Dublin 24
  • Bridge No 2 – Riverside Cottages, Dublin 6W
  • Bridge No 3 – Bushy Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14

In addition, the Dodder Greenaway Phase 2 project also consisted of the following works as outlined below.

  • Widening of existing paths to create a shared surface minimising impact on the Dodder River
  • Construction of new bituminous shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Upgrade and installation of public lighting (including bridge lighting) infrastructure.
  • Road markings and signage
  • Car parking facilities
  • Pedestrian Crossings (controlled and uncontrolled)
  • Treatment and removal of invasive species
  • Services Ducting and Drainage
  • Landscaping
