We are proud to announce the success of the Crescent/Sea Road Junction Upgrade works in Galway City! This Active Travel initiative features:
Galway’s first rain gardens – now thriving on Sea Road, managing stormwater, reducing flood risk and enhancing green spaces.
A new footpath connecting to the Medical Centre on the Crescent and two pedestrian crossings, boosting community safety and connectivity.
Safe Routes to Schools interventions at Scoil Fhursa.
Approximately 300m of traffic-calmed, pedestrian friendly infrastructure.
By narrowing the road, this project has reduced traffic speeds and pedestrian crossing times, creating a more accessible environment. As lead designer, we worked with Galway City Council and John Madden and Sons LTD to bring this nature-inspired upgrade to fruition, thanks to National Transport Authority funding.
Galway Rain Gardens project recognised at the LAMA All-Ireland Community and Council Awards, where it received the Best Community Transport Initiative award.
